The power of RDDs

RDDs. Our favourite acronym. It’s a new trend in the world of market research. And – it is certainly not going out of fashion. More importantly, we want you to know about it.

Fear not, we’ve answered our most frequently asked questions about RDD’s below.

What are they?

RDD’s = random digit dialling.

RDDs are phone numbers generated from an analysis of numbering plans and the geographic patterns of Australia’s population distribution.

Through this innovative process, our data scientists are uniquely placed to generate these algorithms and extract numbers that are actively used by Australians and are highly representative of the population.

Like our list database, on request we can ensure that all numbers are washed against the DNCR.

How can they benefit my sample?

As we know, telephone interviewing is at times, unpredictable. Researchers can be left with unanswered questions or unsatisfied quotas after entering the field. RDD’s allow you to reach respondents beyond our list database.

They can also be targeted to your Local government area, State and Federal electorate, or custom boundary of interest.

Can RDD’s be generated for both mobiles and landlines?

They sure can. The point of difference? If you are looking to target specific states or localities (even postcodes), RDD landlines are your best friend.

Mobiles on the other hand are, well… mobile.

Client success story

During the previous electoral season, a client of ours hadn’t reached their sample quota after exhausting our list database. We gave them a ring and suggested that instead they opt for location targeted RDD landlines, using their list numbers as an exclusion list.

The client agreed this would be a great alternative, but had one question before giving the go ahead: “Will these numbers also be pinged?” (A reminder: we ‘ping’ our numbers to verify that they are live, prior to you phoning them)

We confirmed with our client that our RDDs are highly reliable and not only are they are pinged, but they can also be enriched with demographics.

(Where RDDs match numbers in our list database, age, gender and location can be appended to your data.)

“We want to make sure that you don’t waste time and money phoning numbers that have been disconnected from their carrier” we said.

The client was able to successfully use these RDDs in their research and reach quota.
